Our Befriending & Mentoring Scheme
................................................................................
The Bridge runs a volunteer befriending and mentoring scheme for residents and those making the move on to independent living. Our aim is to see every resident meeting with a befriender /; mentor as well as having the support of their keyworker.
We have found that the mentor scheme is particularly valuable in giving continued low-level friendship support when residents move on; also acting as a link back to The Bridge's professional support should this be needed again.
What is the Mentor Scheme?
It can include the following:
- Befriending - This is the most important part of the scheme, the main aim being to provide a way out of isolation.
- Help with confidence, self-esteem and life skills over time.
- Helping clients establish alternative support networks and active community participation
- Help planning a week (diaries and appointments).
- Encouraging clients to access work, voluntary programmes, education and training.
All mentors and befrienders are overseen by our Community & Outreach Manager. Before starting mentoring we do CRB checks and we also run a basicn 'toolkit' of training. More specific training is available as needed.
